Rathnaleen 2008

This project was conceived as a contemporary variation on the traditional 2 storey gabled rural dwelling.

The design employs single storey elements to enclose external space adjacent to the 2 storey main volume of the dwelling.

The design proposal was devised to maximise passive solar gain, by maximising glazing on south rear elevation.

This glazing is overhung by roofs to minimize overheating in summer.

The aesthetic is paired back and simple rural vernacular.

Areas of cedar cladding and zinc cladding have been introduced to create visual interest.

The construction is a wide cavity wall.

The house was completed in 2011.
